When I think of picking out the perfect Wedding song, I definitely feel overwhelmed. I mean there's so many good ones but you have to find the perfect one right? And although I am not getting married in 2020 (disclaimer) I decided to do a little dreaming of what songs I would be gushing over. As you all know, my taste in music can be pretty old school, which is why this list is all about putting a Vintage Feel into the music you play on your big day.
For me personally, I like a classic, romantic, bringing back the history of love type song. I think the really amazing part of the Wedding Ceremony is the fact that it's such a long standing tradition. That's why I like the style of jumping back in history for music.
So when I was younger, I really wanted to take dance classes but thought I was too old (I was only maybe 14) but thought I'd missed my chance. Luckily, I fought through those defeating thoughts and took them anyway. But it was more of a one-on-one instruction to prepare for a solo performance at the end of the year recital. Although I wanted to dance to Carrie Underwood, my dance teacher picked out this Etta James song for me. I played it over and over again as I practiced my choreography. Maybe I didn't fully understand the meaning of it then, but I understand the meaning more now. It's a thank you to heavens above for bringing that person to you- at last. I like having the memory of my dance to go along with this song. It was a big moment for me, and maybe one day I'll hear it at my own wedding! I'll link the dance video my Dad took at the end of this post for anyone interested :)
So not sure exactly why, but I imagine this song performed by a String Quartet maybe including a vocalist too...
I connect this song with the ending of "Love Actually" one of my favorite movies and my mom's. I just think it's such a sweet and meaningful song. Also at the end of this blog, I'll include my favorite Wedding scene from "Love Actually"- it makes me cry!
Soft, sweet and relaxing with a little edge :)
This classic will be sure to take you back in time. The vocals are stunning and clean. It's a great melody for a slow dance.
A duet with the voices of 2 angels, what could be a better first dance song? Calming, devotional, and heart melting...a true love song!
There's no one quite like Etta James- she's got heart, she's got soul, she's got a power house voice SO welcome her on my list again :) If you're lucky enough to find a "Sunday Kind of Love" then I think you should celebrate it with this dreamy song.
This song starts off slow & ends with a banngggggggggg. Perfect if you don't want too slow of a first dance song. Plus it's filled with sweet words, devotion & admiration.
Not sure who out there has seen "Eat Pray Love" but this is their Wedding song in the movie. Although their love story isn't the perfect happy ending one, I loved hearing this song featured during their first dance. It made me think of it differently. It's a really peaceful, relaxing, song and nice for an evening slow-dance ESPECIALLY if it's a Harvest Moon :)
"Heaven, I'm in heaven, And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak, And I seem to find the happiness I seek, When we're out together dancing cheek to cheek" -is there anything sweeter? Noooooope
Catch your squad off guard with this lesser known Beatles song. It's fun and romantic, and really just gets to the point: "Love you forever and forever, Love you with all my heart, Love you whenever we're together, Love you when we're apart".
The first time I heard this song was watching my dad's favorite movie with him: "A Bronx Tale". With nothing but pure voices a Capella style, this love story is passionately told. I think it'd be so cool to have a choir sing this at a Wedding.
I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT MUSIC IN MOVIES! And this one makes me think of "50 First Dates". It reminds me of being in love on a nice island somewhere. Happiness, happiness, all over this song!
This song will have you stopping time and living in the moment for your first dance with the person you commit to spending your life with. It foreshadows life and how fast it will go, but you'll be sharing it with the best person you could choose -and that's love.
I love this song. It's impossible to not be happy and be thinking of fond memories when you hear it. It makes me think of fun, and adventure. Kind of like a song you'd hear in a road trip movie. It makes me think of a happy future with someone.
I can never listen to this song just once. I've tried--can't do it. It's a very powerful love song. It makes you want to laugh and cry at the same time. Here's all you need to know: "Yours was the first face that I saw, I think I was blind before I met you, I don't know where I am, I don't know where I've been, But I know where I want to go"
Some will say "Imagine" as the greatest he wrote, some may argue "Come Together". I will always argue that this song is the greatest John Lennon wrote.
This is the kind of song you listen to when you wake up and have a cup of coffee while looking outside the window on a beautiful summer day. It's the simplicity of things and how beautiful they are. I'd imagine strolling down the streets of Paris. So if you and your partner dream of traveling together in your future, this is a great one for you!
Billie Holiday - she manages to talk straight to the heart.
"I see your face in every flower,
Your eyes in stars above,
It's just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love"
I'm sure everyone knows it and loves it. It's a crowd favorite but it's also great for a happy twirl on the dance floor
WELL EVERYONE Your 2020 Wedding year has begun- whether you're getting married or attending a celebration... may there be lots of love that is brought together and cherished this year.
